Buddy the wonder dog.
as sneaky as he needs to be...
Once when Buddy was about six months old, he carried five rolls of toilet paper out into the back yard. It was a cool Fall morning and I had the back door open wide so he could come and go as he pleased while I worked at the computer (this was before I installed the pet door). He did all of this not twenty feet away from me while my back was turned, making a total of five trips between the bathroom and back yard since obviously he could only carry one roll of toilet paper at a time. He carried all five rolls underneath a big shade tree and then very methodically began tearing them apart. By the time I caught him he had two of the rolls completely shredded and was happily working away on the third. Yeah, I know.. puppies chew stuff up all the time. So what else is new? I've had dogs all my life and I have never seen one as meticulous as Buddy is. Dixie is a good example. Had Dixie come across an open cabinet door in the bathroom and suddenly found herself faced with the prospect of five rolls of toilet paper and zero supervision, she would have grabbed the closest one and plopped down right there on the bathroom floor to chew it up. No planning. No stealth. No finesse whatsoever. Grab it and crunch it. That's been the M.O. of every dog I've ever had. Buddy plans things though. He thinks ahead. He will postpone immediate gratification in favor of even greater gratification later on down the road. I suppose it's possible I've always had stupid dogs but I have never had one of them do something like this before. Not this thorough anyway.
