Cen-Tech digital scales model 95364
Not one of Harbor Freight's finer moments...
I don't know how many times in the past I've needed to weigh something that I planned to mail in order to figure out the amount of postage I needed. Usually a package or an over-sized letter, I've either had to guess (which invariably results in using too much postage), or make a trip to the Post Office so they could weigh it. No, it doesn't happen every day, but it happens often enough.
I remember pricing digital scales years ago and being blown away by how high they were. The Cen-Tech digital scales (model 95364) on the right are $19.99 at Harbor Freight. I believe Harbor Freight is the only place you can get them. I've been looking at digital scales again this past week in order to weigh my tomatoes when they get ripe. By weighing each tomato and keeping a running total, I'll know at the end of the growing season how much total weight my six plants have produced. I already know how much money I've spent getting this small garden going (I'll have to guess as to how much water I use in watering them). By dividing the amount of money I've spent into the total pounds of tomatoes produced I can get a "per pound" dollar amount and compare it to whatever the going rate is for a pound of tomatoes at the grocery store. Stuff like this happens when people have too much time on their hands.
Now, having said all that, I would not advise buying this particular digital scale. It was grossly inaccurate straight out of the box. I had a set weight that I knew to be 396 grams. These scales weighed that same item at 2,110 grams! The mode select button, which in theory allows you to switch back and forth between grams, ounces and pounds, didn't work at all. It would switch weights from one to the other but would always revert back to grams when you actually weighed something. Select "Pounds" and place the item you want to weigh on the scale top and it immediately reverts back to grams (and not even close to being accurate at that). Needless to say, I took it back for a refund the next day. Buyer beware on this one...
