Linksys 2.4GHz Wireless-G Broadband Router
Model: WRT54G
I bought this Linksys wireless router to replace a D-link wired router that I'd been using for several years. There wasn't anything technically wrong with the Dlink. Unfortunately, there wasn't a whole lot right with it either and after two years I'd decided an upgrade was in order. I went with the Linksys because it seemed to be one of the more popular broadband routers on the market. I found tons of online documentation, Linksys support forums and user groups, and their own in-house and informative Linksys FAQ's section. Support for this router was highly visible and it was that, more than anything else, that convinced me to buy it. The Netgear WGR614 wireless router ran a close second.
Setting up and installing the Linksys router was a breeze, far easier than the nightmare I had with the D-Link. A step by step installation wizard walked me through the highlights and in less than twenty minutes I was finished. Three hours later the router quit working for no apparent reason and I called Linksys technical support to try to find out why. It turned out I needed a firmware upgrade, a procedure that was completed as I held on the support call. Once the firmware had been upgraded, I simply reinstalled the router from step one and in no time I was up and running again.
